 On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment was formally added to the Constitution giving women the right to vote. In commemoration, the Ardsley Public Library Children's room has created a book list to celebrate the achievement of female suffragists.

We know that many of you are probably missing being able to browse the library shelves in person. While we can't wait to have you all back when it is possible to do so in a safe way, we wanted to make things easier for you in the meantime. Hopefully, you have seen our general guide to using the online catalog, but we decided to make one specifically for help with searching for children's books. Please reach out to us with any questions, and we are always available to make recommendations for books as well!

We have been having a great time so far at our two previous science programs run by Suez Outreach and Education Program. In fact, they've been such a hit that we have extended the programming through August! Click here to register your children.  
It can be difficult to talk with your children about Black Lives Matter and racism in America. One way to make it easier is to use age appropriate books that will help your child understand the reality of the situation at an appropriate level. The books here range in subject, from historical looks at the Civil Rights Movement, to contemporary looks at racism, to biographies of famous activists. Explaining to your children about the current pandemic and why we need to protect ourselves and other people can be difficult. We've put together a short list of resources that might be helpful when it comes to talking to your children about the Coronavirus. Here are some helpful resources provided by NY State to help you talk with your children about COVID-19. All books on the list are online and can be accessed without coming to the library. Here are some videos put out by the Cincinnati Children's Hospital that cover different aspects of the pandemic.  Also, check out Sick Simon by Dan Krall. While this book isn't explicitly about COVID-19, it does talk about how easy it is to spread germs, and the importance of washing your hands and covering your mouth. As long as we're open, we can get you the books right away. The display is to the left of the entrance to the library. You can bring your children to come look at the options (while also checking out our new adults books for yourself), and call us at (914) 693-6636 once you know which ones you want. We can check them out to you and bring them outside immediately.
